How Are Lab-Grown Colored Diamonds Formed?

Lab-grown colored diamonds are created by replicating nature'sprocess in a laboratory. Scientists use HPHT high pressure hightemperature or CVD chemical vapor deposition methods to growdiamond seeds under controlled conditions. During growth, specifictrace elements are added or the growth environment is adjusted toproduce desired colors. The process takes several weeks to months, resulting in diamonds with stable permanent color.

What Is the Source of Color in Colored Diamonds?

The color of colored diamonds comes from trace elements or latticedistortion within the crystal structure. Nitrogen produces yellowliamonds, boron creates blue diamonds, and lattice distortion duringgrowth causes pink and red diamonds. Whether natural or lab-grownthe color formation principle is identical. The color becomes part ofthe crystal structure, not post-treatment or dyeing, and thereforenever fades.
